Financial aid scholarships

Scholarships are a source of financial assistance available of free to the students who meet certain eligibility requirements. Undergraduate Scholarships and graduate fellowships are part of Financial Aid, which helps students in paying their education costs. Scholarships and fellowships are different from student loans which do not require payment. More than two-thirds of non-U.S. students use educational costs from their own personal accounts and from their families as the primary source of financing their education.

Only about 20 percent of non-U.S. students receive most of their academic funding from a U.S. college. Generally, scholarships and fellowships are intended to the students who have extra curricular activities like academic, athletic or artistic talent. Every scholarship sponsor is trying to find the students that best fulfill their selection criteria. If the selection criteria don't depend on academic merit, then they might depend on athletic or artistic merit, community service, extracurricular activities, or on skill in a non-academic discipline.

Many of the scholarships require proof of financial need and the applicants are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web. Need-based scholarships determined by the student's EFC. Other than the college, many scholarship foundations contribute scholarships based on the EFC and family's financial situation. Merit-based scholarships are based on a student's talent or academic progress. And also some special factors like leadership ability, moral character and involvement in extracurricular activities can guarantee the eligibility.
